LifeHouse’s Executive Director, Kelly Durkin stated, “In 2022, LifeHouse Child Advocacy Center conducted 357 forensic interviews of child victims with 84% of their alleged perpetrators of abuse disclosed as male. The purpose of a male led fundraiser is not to silence others, but to create a platform for men in the community to speak up for child victims. It is important for youth and the community to see strong male role models who will pledge to raise awareness about a topic that is often not talked about.”
The 15 LifeHouse Heroes for 2023 will raise awareness and funds for LifeHouse Child Advocacy Center during the campaign, which runs June 29 – July 20, 2023. LifeHouse Child Advocacy Center is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization in Topeka that serves Shawnee and surrounding counties. LifeHouse provides services to children who are victims of sexual and/or physical abuse or are witnesses to domestic violence and/or other violent crimes. LifeHouse also presents Protecting Your Children: Advice From Child Molesters, an education and prevention program for parents and caregivers and Brave Talk, an education and prevention program for grade school children. Above all LifeHouse continues its mission of helping kids be kids again. Community members can help the 2023 LifeHouse Heroes by making a donation at www.lifehousecac.com.
